Cowboy Mounted Shooting is one
of the nation’s fastest growing
equestrian sports. Combining barrel
racing, pole bending as well as cowboy
shooting with Hollywood blanks all into
one cowboy sport. Each contestant in
this fast action event is equipped with
two .45 caliber single action revolvers,
each loaded with five rounds of special
black powder blank ammunition provided
by the match director. Courses of fire
are set in a variety of patterns. The
first five light balloon targets are set
in a random pattern and the last five
dark balloons are set in a straight line
known as a rundown. After the shooter
has fired the fifth shot he/she holsters
the empty revolver and proceeds to and
turns around a barrel at the far end
while drawing the second revolver. He
then engages the last five balloon
targets on the rundown. Scoring is based
on the elapsed time plus a five second
penalty for each missed balloon or
knocked over barrel. A course of fire
can take between 20 and 30 seconds.
Think of “rolling back the clock” to the
late 1800's and you will have a pretty
good idea of the general clothing
requirements for some organizations. All
breeds of horses and mules whether
registered or not can be used.
Do you want to see how your horse acts
around gunfire? This is the place to
practice in a safe environment. There
are always experienced horsemen and
horsewomen around to help you learn
about the Worlds fastest growing cowboy
sport:
